Proverbs 3: Success, Anyone?

Everyone seeks to be successful at something, or many things: marriage, school, career, parenting, tennis, etc. We strive for success. The pursuit of success leads our decision-making thought process. God knows that we strive for success, so here is what he says:

Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding, Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success. – Proverbs 3:5-6

Here it is. Contrary to all popular beliefs: God gives success. God will give me success if I count on him. You see, if I make my own plans and work very hard at them, I am really trusting ME and not GOD. But if I prayerfully follow the paths that God sets before me, he continues to be in control of my life and my success comes from him alone. He gets all the credit for it.

Now, this may sound very simplistic. I don’t want to go deep into the definition of success, but I want to say this. If the circumstances that you are going through are in God’s plan, then you are successful. Success is accomplishing the will of God in one’s life. For example, Jesus was successful because he accomplished what he came for: to die on the cross.

Okay, let me stop there and not get scary.

Your turn: share how God has taught you about being successful. You can also just share some verses that strengthen you on the subject. I love hearing from you!
