Proverbs 4: Be a Guardian

There are several verses that speak to me in this chapter, so it was not easy to pick which one to share. So here is the one that I picked:

Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Wisdom is telling us that we have to pay attention to the things that we let into our heart. This can be frustrations, envies, jealousies, resentment, lust, etc. they creep in often without us noticing.

The truth of the Word is saying that everything we do flows from our heart. And most importantly, that it’s Really up to us what we choose to keep in our hearts. This reminds me of two other verses:

Jesus says: You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Matthew 12:34)

And James says: Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away (James 1:14)

Indeed what is hidden in our heart is the root of our behaviors. So let’s be vigilent and watch.

Father cleanse my heart this morning of all malice, frustrations, jealousies, envy, evil desires. Lord let the bloodbof Jesus wash me completely that I may be pleasing to you.

I thank you Lord for the grace to be a guardian of my heart. That I will not let anything defile it. I thank you that I walk in righteousness all the days of my life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
