The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.
When I was growing up, I would notice that my parents would not take opportunities to return the wrong that people might have done to them. I learned from them that when you act like someone who wronged you, then you become the same as them. When you realize that someone lacks wisdom to understand the path of righteousness, don’t argue with them. It would not serve any good purpose to try to talk sense into them.
Romans 12: 17, 19 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
The verse from Proverbs 5 reminded me that I don’t have to try and “deal” with people who wrong me. In spite of the fact that there may be a way for me to pay back, it is not necessary. Their own sins are trap for them. Their evil will catch up to them, so I can sleep in peace and not worry when it seems that they are getting away with evil.
Father God, I ask you to bless me with a spirit of forgiveness. As Jesus asked you to forgive those who were killing him, I am asking you to forgive those who are plotting against me or wrongfully hurting me. Lord, I forgive them too. Bless them with your wisdom so that they will also change their ways. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
